Character Description & Notes
Character Description: Skimmy's parents were rich, but he didn't want any part of that. Selling your soul to the Man so you can lounge around in luxury...what a waste of a life. He wanted something more, action, adventure, something interesting, and he didn't wanna have to sell out to get it. So he became a Squat. Skimmy has no place to call home, so he makes one. His word is his bond with others, not creds, so he keeps his promises no matter what.
Still, everyone needs money, even if he didn't wanna make it the center of his existence. As a result he picked up gambling as a habit. He quickly learned that there was a skill, a talent, a knack needed for this, and figured out at least a few tricks of the trade. Gambling is no longer about making a quick buck for him - no, it's all about the game, the fun, the thrill of risking it all and maybe losing it in the end. Cards are his specialty, as it is the standard form that gambling takes, and so Skimmy carries a deck or two around with him everywhere he goes, looking for a chance at a game or two.
His yogang is the Scavs, a bunch of fellow squatters that he ran across as he moved from place to place. Living on the street and making your home wherever you want it to be gave them something in common, and Skimmy made friends quickly with the other street rats. There's no real organization to the group, just the common ties of looking for fun, moving from place to play, and looking for something interesting to do. It was amongst the Scavs that Skimmy earned his name. They called him Eskimo at first, after the layers of clothing he wore, but that eventually devolved in simply 'Skimmy.' Skimmy learned pretty quickly after hitting the streets that moving in a pack is the way to go, so he and the Scavs stuck together to dissuade any thugs from causing a problem. Not that they'd be much for fighting them off, but bullies just never seemed to wanna pick on someone with friends. Either way, the Scavs are the closest thing he's got to a family now, and they get along swell.
The only real difficulty Skim seems to consistently face is finding other players. He's got a set of nice, semi-clean clothing that he pulled from behind a laundromat that he wears when he wants to go gambling at the nicer establishments, but nothing can totally cover up the stench of a Squat. Still, Skimmy manages to find an opponent or two from time to time. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose...the trick is just to win more often.
Skimmy's not much for fighting, so he usually tries to stay out of any conflict. There's no weapon he's really good with, in truth...he's got his trusty crowbar at all times, but it's really more for prying open doors'n'dumpsters, and Skim's just as likely to hurt himself as anyone else if he were to swing it. More often, if it comes down to violence, he'll just grab the nearest object and fling it at the attacker, then run.
He's a pretty clever kid, and knows a bit about the tech of the day due to the bits of skit found in the dumpsters. Skim's not the strongest juve around, but quick-moving and lucky, which gives him a bit of an affinity for the gambling scene. A few years of gambling have also taught him to control his nerves, so he'll stay pretty chill most of the time; however, he wasn't born the most beautiful of kids, and appears rather ratty and freckled. While he'll make friends with those that have stuff in common with him, Skimmy was never the social butterfly that many other kids grew to be.
When the situation calls for violence Skim's first tendency is to grab the nearest object and chuck it at his attacker and flee. He also once saw a guy who was really good at throwing cards, and tried to pick that skill up himself...anywho, Skim's pretty good at chucking most objects with a degree of accuracy, and is pretty fleet of foot as well. His best defense, however, is hiding in the dumpsters or the shadows and avoiding trouble. To this end, he's also gotten fairly good at putting on the ole' innocence act. He's fairly street smart, and knows the language of the other juves; you gotta keep your wits about you to stay alive out here, and so Skim does. He's got a bit of learning from back when his parents still had him in school, but not much, and has never been on a bike in his life.
Just around the time he turned twelve, Skimmy noticed that his usual dirty appearance had gained a silvery edge to it. He had a terrible bout of sickness that last for a solid 2 weeks, and when he recovered, he discovered he had gained a few new abilities.
